Challenges and Accomplishments During Covid

The past three years have been filled with challenges, but we managed to make significant progress during the Covid pandemic.  In particular, we finished the temporary convent and welcomed our first group of postulants and novices there, along with two formators from the Sisters of Mary of Kakamega.

On September 28, 2021, the Right Reverend Bishop Rogath Kimaryo gave a blessing to the new temporary convent that will house the Sisters of Mater Dei Africa.

On January 1st, 2022, the first class of five postulants and three novices were welcomed to the new temporary convent in Same. They are now living there with two formators from the Sisters of Mary of Kakamega to continue their formation.

While this is great news for our new Order and our Diocese, it also means that our new convent with four bedrooms is housing ten people and is already very full. Further, we are expecting as many as four new postulants each year going forward. So we must begin construction of a larger, permanent convent right away, that will house more postulants, and have a proper chapel and classroom.

We are happy with our progress so far and look forward to meeting these new challenges with the help of our growing community of supporters.
